KatadataOTO – PT Transportation Jakarta (Transjakarta) is optimistic about reaching 400 million users by the end of 2025. This figure is a significant increase compared to the number of customers last year.

In 2024, the transportation company reached 372 million customers. The high number of passengers shows that Transjakarta has become a mainstay for residents' mobility.

“Last year we served 372 million customers, while in 2025 the target is to exceed 400 million. As of the third quarter, there have been 298 million passengers, so we are optimistic about achieving the target,” said Welfizon Yuza, President Director of PT Transjakarta, some time ago.

In addition, the company is also currently preparing a new phase towards "smart mobility," which is an integrated, technology-based, and citizen-oriented public transportation system.

"We are no longer just talking about the busway, but about how the service becomes part of a smart city where citizens are at the center. Because Transjakarta is not just 'customer-centric', but 'citizen-centric'," he said.

He explained that this transformation direction will become the foundation when Jakarta becomes a global city.

To support achieving the target, the number of Transjakarta routes is continuously being increased. The company now even serves routes to buffer zones such as Bogor, Bekasi, and Tangerang.

This move is believed to be able to increase Transjakarta's ridership and reduce residents' dependence on private vehicles. This situation is also believed to be able to reduce the road burden that causes traffic congestion.

Transjakarta Fares Set to Increase

However, the Transjakarta fare, which has not changed since 2005, will be revised. Although the amount has not been confirmed, it is hoped that it will not burden the public's mobility.

“Transjakarta's cost recovery has decreased from 34 percent in 2015 to 14 percent currently. This means the cost required to cover it is getting higher. But there is no figure (for the adjustment) yet, it is still being detailed," said Syafrin Liputo, Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, some time ago.

Cost recovery indicates how much of the operational costs can be covered by the fares paid by passengers. The remainder is usually covered by the government through subsidies.
