The Denza D9 is a luxurious electric MPV that challenges the Toyota Alphard. Here's KatadataOTO's first impression review.
KatadataOTO – Denza D9 is the first product from BYD's luxury sub-brand to debut in Indonesia, entering the electric MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) class as a new rival to the Toyota Alphard.
Interestingly, the Denza D9 is offered at a competitive price of IDR 950 million on the road in Jakarta. For comparison, the Toyota Alphard HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) is currently sold for IDR 1.73 billion.
This makes the product a viable option for consumers looking for a luxury MPV under IDR 1 billion.
Comfort is a priority for this MPV. The Denza D9 uses a special electric car chassis with CTB (Cell to Body) technology, where the battery cells are directly integrated into the car's platform, thus increasing cabin space.
A similar configuration has previously been applied to the BYD Seal electric car. Not only does it make the interior spacious, but CTB is also said to help with the Seal's performance and acceleration balance when driving.
KatadataOTO had the opportunity to experience the Denza D9's cabin firsthand at the IIMS 2025 exhibition. Unfortunately, the test drive was conducted as a taxi ride, driven by a driver provided by Denza during the exhibition.
Here is a review of the first impression of trying the Denza D9 as a passenger at the IIMS 2025 exhibition.
The unit we used had a light-colored interior, reinforcing the luxurious and elegant impression of the Denza D9's cabin. The seat adjustments are electric, making them easy to operate, and it's not difficult to find a comfortable seating position.
