BYD, Wuling, and Chery were the top three Chinese car brands with the highest retail sales last year.
KatadataOTO – Throughout last year, BYD became the Chinese car brand with the highest number of retail sales (distribution from dealers to consumers) in Indonesia.
Referring to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), BYD's retail sales reached 44,342 units and recorded a market share of 5.3 percent.
BYD's sales reached their highest point in October. A total of 8,243 units were delivered to customers.
There are various factors believed to be driving BYD's sales. For example, the provision of incentives, making the price of BYD electric cars increasingly competitive.
The presence of the small electric car, Atto 1, at GIIAS 2025 also contributed. The model was sold for Rp 199 million for the lowest trim.
After BYD, there is Wuling with retail sales of 20,607 units. In 2025, Wuling consistently maintained sales in the range of 1,000 units per month.
Wuling itself launched several new products in 2025 to maintain its sales figures. The models introduced focused on the electrification line.
The Wuling Cortez Darion comes in two variants, namely Electric Vehicle (EV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV).
A sub-brand of BYD, Denza, ranked fourth among the best-selling Chinese car brands in Indonesia in 2025.
Despite only presenting one car model, the Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) Denza D9, its retail sales reached 7,324 units.
When it was first launched, BYD's retail sales reached 1,000 units in March and June 2025. However, the numbers gradually decreased and remained consistent at 200-300 units per month.
Denza is rumored to be expanding its product portfolio next year. Strong candidates to be introduced are the Z9 GT high-performance electric hatchback, as well as an updated version of the D9 called the D9L.
Chery also has a sub-brand in Indonesia, namely Jaecoo. Its retail sales were also satisfactory with 2,500 units supported by the Jaecoo J5 EV, J7, J7 SHS, and J8.
