KatadataOTO – BYD becomes one of the Chinese electric car brands that are enlivening the domestic automotive market. Prices are offered competitively, and the models are varied.
These factors then become a particular attraction for domestic consumers. Most recently, their new model, the BYD Atto 1 has contributed positive sales since its debut because its price is in the range of around Rp 195 million and up.
Even in the early period of BYD Atto 1's launch, the model recorded wholesales (distribution from factory to dealers) up to 9,000 units.
As a result, BYD closed 2025 with a total retail sales of 44,342 units, placing it at the sixth rank among the best-selling car brands in the country throughout 2025.
When it debuted in 2024, BYD only began delivering units to consumers in July. At that time, BYD's retail sales (distribution from dealer to consumer) were 2,047 units.
Only three products were offered, covering the BYD Dolphin, Atto 3, and Seal. All three entered Indonesia under the imported electric car incentive scheme.
BYD maintained stable retail sales figures around 2,000 units except in September. However overall, in 2025 BYD's achievement was 13,964 units.
In 2025 BYD kept retail sales numbers in the range of 1,000 to over 2,000 units.
BYD's highest retail sales last year were in October (9,732 units), shortly after the launch of Atto 1.
At the end of the year BYD managed to record retail sales of 44,342 units and a market share of 5.3 percent.
If calculated, the increase in BYD retail sales from 2024 to 2025 is 217.5 percent.
BYD is believed to still introduce new products in 2026. Then several of its flagship models will soon be locally assembled in accordance with the provisions for beneficiaries of the imported electric car incentive.
