KatadataOTO – Changan doesn't just want to market electric cars in Indonesia. They will also be bringing a number of technologies.
Recently, the brand from China admitted it will introduce a product with Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) technology, or what they call Range Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV).
"Yes, we have a plan (to bring in REEV cars), we see that none have entered before. From what we see, what's currently available are EVs, Plug-in Hybrids, but REEVs are not yet here," said Setiawan Surya, CEO of Changan Indonesia in Chongqing, China, on Friday (24/10).
Setiawan believes this situation is an opportunity for them to introduce new technology to the country.
So that consumers have more options when they want to buy an environmentally friendly four-wheeled vehicle.
"One of the models being considered (to enter Indonesia) is the Changan Deepal S05," Setiawan continued.
According to him, there are a number of reasons why Changan prefers to bring the Deepal S05 into the country.
For example, the REEV car has already been launched in Thailand. So it will be very easy for them to market it in Indonesia.
It doesn't require many changes to adapt to the needs of the Indonesian market. For example, it already uses a right-hand drive system.
"Looking at it, REEV is an option for customers who want to experience an EV but don't need to worry when traveling home for the holidays or going out of town," Setiawan emphasized.
Citing the official Changan Thailand website, the Deepal S05 is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a power of 160 kW or 214.5 hp and 320 Nm of torque.
It is then paired with a 1,497 cc four-cylinder VVT range extender gasoline engine.
It is claimed to be able to produce 70 kW of power, or the equivalent of 93.8 hp. Then the peak torque reaches 122 Nm.
Not to forget, there is also a 27.28 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery.
With the various designs above, the Changan Deepal S05 can accelerate from a standstill to 100 km per hour in just 7.9 seconds.
Meanwhile, its maximum speed reaches 175 km per hour. With a cruising range of up to 1,067 km.
"Next year Changan is ready to bring REEVs to Indonesia, hopefully by the second semester at the latest," Setiawan concluded.
