Examining the Sales Fate of the Honda BR-V After Becoming a Taxi Fleet

Considering that vehicles used for taxi fleet operations will certainly cover above-average distances.

This is actually seen as proof to consumers that the car in question is reliable and durable.

"Imagine one month as a taxi, (the assumed mileage is) 12 thousand kilometers. If used normally (privately), 12 thousand kilometers is equivalent to one year," said Bebin.

If we look at the premium segment, there are still taxi fleets using luxury car lines like the Toyota Alphard. It seems this does not significantly affect sales.

"Luxury brands don't lose their prestige when used as taxis. In Switzerland, I used a Mercedes-Benz S-Class taxi. In Norway, the Tesla Model S is a taxi," said Bebin.

Then, electric cars like the BYD M6, which are part of online taxi fleets, can also maintain their sales in Indonesia. In fact, it remains one of the main contributors due to its competitive price tag.

BR-V Sales in the Last Three Years

The Honda BR-V contributed 2,764 units in retail sales in its launch year, 2021. This figure rose sharply to a record high of 23,583 units in 2022.

In 2023, there was a decline, but it remained one of the main contributors. Its retail sales figure was 18,104 units.

The Honda BR-V was also affected by various economic challenges in 2024. Its sales dropped again to 11,098 units that year.

So what is the fate of Honda BR-V sales this year amidst economic turmoil and its title as a taxi fleet? 

If it is believed that this will not make consumers switch, the numbers should hold steady. However, we can only assume until the 2025 retail sales data is revealed after the year ends.
