KatadataOTO – The new motorcycle market in Indonesia faces various challenges in 2025, causing its performance to be less than optimal.
Astra Honda Motor (AHM) predicts that the distribution of new motorcycles from factories to dealers (wholesales) throughout 2025 will be the same as in 2024.
“The market will likely be similar to last year, a total market of 6.4 million units,” said Octavianus Dwi, Marketing Director of AHM in Cikarang, West Java, recently.
According to Octa, if there is an increase, it will not be too large or significant. This is because the economic conditions in Indonesia have not yet fully recovered.
This situation greatly affects people's purchasing power. Therefore, manufacturers have to work extra hard.
Moreover, the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) had previously targeted new motorcycle wholesales at 6.4 million to 6.7 million units.
“(The target of 6.7 million units) must be fought for, so from my perspective, even if it increases, it will be slight,” Octa continued.
Nevertheless, Honda hopes the new motorcycle market will recover soon and become vibrant again like a few years ago.
Furthermore, the government has started trying to launch economic packages at the end of the year. It is hoped that this can stimulate public spending.
“So that's a big influence, the (middle segment) is starting to move. The stimulus is being felt but is not yet significant,” Octa affirmed.
On the other hand, Honda has also been trying to stimulate the market, such as by launching a dozen two-wheeled vehicles in 2025.
Starting from new products, facelifts, new color options, to big bikes (moge). All are presented to entice the public to buy two-wheeled vehicles.
“Actually, we are trying to strengthen our market share. The increase per segment is decent, above one (percent),” Octa concluded.
