KatadataOTO – The Police are collaborating with jockeys in the Puncak area, Bogor to overcome the traffic congestion that often occurs, especially during long holidays. They are doing this so that traffic can flow more smoothly.

This is because, so far, the jockeys have actually triggered new problems on the ground. Because the vehicles they direct actually create new points of congestion.

Police Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, Head of the West Java Regional Police, revealed that the practice of releasing vehicles causes traffic flow intersections. As a result, it disrupts the smooth journey of road users.

To overcome this, the Bogor Police together with the West Java Regional Police are now making the jockeys part of a coordinated security effort. So that the release points can be reduced.

"The Chief of Police and his staff have made them volunteers. So they can help us manage the roads," said Rudi.

He emphasized that the volunteer traffic wardens (supeltas) no longer prioritize receiving money from road users, but rather assist in carrying out police duties in the field.

"So they no longer prioritize those who give money. We also give them incentives and they help carry out our duties," he said.

The Regional Police Chief mentioned that 60 volunteer traffic wardens are involved in traffic management in the Puncak area, and they are given vests as identification so their presence is clear in the field.

"Sixty people, we give them vests so the sign is clear and we direct them to contribute," said Rudi.

Experiencing an Increase in the Number of Vehicles

It should be noted that during the 2026 Christmas and New Year holidays, the number of tourists coming to the Puncak area is expected to increase. Even on Friday (26/12), the average traffic flow reached 2,000 vehicles per hour.

This increase has been monitored since December 20, 2025, based on the monitoring results of the police at the Gadog Police Post.

“As of Friday afternoon, the number of cars and motorcycles entering the Puncak area has reached around 15 thousand. The average movement is approximately 2,000 vehicles per hour,” added Rudi.

The traffic is dominated by vehicles from the direction of Jakarta and several other regions. The increased mobility of the public during the year-end holiday period is the main factor causing congestion on this tourist route.

To anticipate congestion, the West Java Regional Police together with the Bogor Police are implementing situational traffic engineering. This includes the implementation of a stop-and-go system according to conditions on the ground.
