KatadataOTO – The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) will implement a point-based ticketing system. The plan is for this policy to be implemented this year or in 2025.
Several parties have welcomed the regulation. This is because a driver's license (SIM) will be revoked after committing several violations.
“The process of reapplying for a driver's license will have a deterrent effect because it takes up time and money,” said Budiyanto, a transportation and legal observer, in an official statement on Wednesday (8/1).
He also urged the police to immediately implement the point-based ticketing system in the country, so it can reduce the number of traffic violations.
According to Budiyanto, drivers will think twice before committing traffic violations on the road.
They will then always be careful and obey all the regulations that have been implemented by the National Police Traffic Corps. They will automatically drive in an orderly manner.
“Discipline in traffic is the first step to avoiding accidents. Every incident is preceded by a violation,” Budiyanto continued.
For your information, the point-based ticketing system has been proposed for a long time. However, its implementation has not been carried out due to various reasons.
"The parameters for safety data on public behavior in driving on the road are violations and traffic accidents," said the Head of the National Police Traffic Corps, Inspector General Aan Suhanan.
Aan stated that every driver's license holder will receive 12 points for a year. If a minor violation is committed, one point will be deducted.
Furthermore, a moderate violation will result in a deduction of three points. Then, for a serious category violation, five points will be deducted.
"If an accident causes a fatality, 12 points will be deducted immediately. Even a hit-and-run can result in the immediate revocation of the driver's license," he said.
