10 Best-Selling Chinese Car Brands in May 2025, BYD Still On Top

KatadataOTO – The presence of Chinese cars is no longer a new thing in the country. Currently, the electrification lineup in the country is dominated by manufacturers from China.

The presence of new models serves as a support to boost sales, especially amidst weakening purchasing power.

BYD recently introduced a facelifted version of the Seal some time ago with a price increase of around IDR 7 million from the previous type.

In terms of wholesales (distribution from factory to dealer), the Sealion 7 immediately became one of BYD's main contributors in April.

Processed from Gaikindo (Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries) data, BYD experienced a decrease in retail sales compared to April 2025.

Nevertheless, this Chinese brand still maintained its first-place position with a total of 2,639 units.

Following that is Chery, which managed to sell 2,067 units throughout May 2025. The third rank is occupied by Wuling with 1,465 units.

BAIC, which just launched a refresh of the X55-II SUV, boosted its sales figures from 29 units to 44 units.

Denza's performance also saw a decline, but it still holds the fourth spot among the best-selling Chinese car brands, relying on a single model, the Denza D9.

To boost sales, several manufacturers have prepared new products for consumers.

BYD is reportedly ready to bring in the affordable Seagull electric car in the near future, most likely at GIIAS (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show) 2025.

Denza will bring a complement to the D9 in the form of the high-performance Z9 GT hatchback with a price range of around IDR 1.1 billion.

Aion's parent company, GAC, has signaled the arrival of an MPV with PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) technology. However, the estimated price of the model in the country is not yet known.
