KatadataOTO – Indonesia's automotive industry experienced a slowdown in 2024. In fact, the new car market saw a significant correction.
According to data from Gaikindo (Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries), four-wheeled vehicle wholesales last year only reached 865,723 units.
The figure above is down 13.9 percent compared to the achievement in 2023. This is because it previously managed to record 1,005,802 units.
Nevertheless, BMW Group Indonesia claims to have achieved excellent results from January to December last year.
“For 2024, we are very pleased to share that we have secured a 39 percent market share in the premium segment,” said Peter Sunny Medalla, President Director of BMW Group Indonesia in Jakarta, Friday (17/1).
Sunny stated that, in terms of sales figures, the brand from the blue continent reached 3,792 units in retail sales, or from dealer to consumer.
Meanwhile, Mini is said to have recorded around 901 units. Giving them a market share of 9.3 percent.
He claims that this result allows BMW to maintain its dominance in the premium car segment in the country.
“So BMW and Mini together achieved a market share of about 50 percent in the premium segment,” said Sunny.
Sunny also expressed his happiness with the above achievement. Because it shows that consumers in the country still trust products from BMW and Mini.
Thus, they were able to maintain the top position in luxury car sales throughout 2024.
“It shows our dedication to innovation and our ability to adapt to the ever-changing needs of our customers,” he continued.
A number of factors are said to have helped them record quite positive results. Such as the launch of several new products.
Both conventional and EV (Electric Vehicle) vehicles, amounting to over a dozen models.
“Because we don't just sell EVs, we also help customers with sustainable mobility issues,” concluded Sunny.
On the other hand, looking at the 2023 data, BMW Group's achievement last year actually experienced a decline.
Based on KatadataOTO's records, throughout 2023 the German manufacturer successfully sold 5,063 units.
In detail, BMW recorded 4,172 units. While Mini was at 891 vehicles.
This means that sales of both BMW and Mini cars in 2024 corrected by 7.3 percent, from 5,063 units to 4,693 units.
