KatadataOTO – Ford, through PT RMA Indonesia, has just launched the New Ranger XL, a double cabin pickup for the needs of consumers in the commercial segment. This model is only available with a manual transmission at a price of Rp 521 million on the road in Jakarta.

Previously, Ford only offered the Ranger Wildtrak, XLT, and Ranger Raptor double cabin pickups, which came with an automatic transmission.

According to Ford, the presence of the New Ranger XL can be a new choice for consumers in the country. They revealed that the 4x4 d-cab pickup segment with manual transmission is more in demand.

“It's quite widespread in the archipelago areas. Sumatra, Java, Bali, and Kalimantan. The Ranger XL double cabin is a commercial vehicle that is also multifunctional for mining operations, official use, and others,” said Aviandra Pradipta, Head of Product at PT RMA Indonesia in South Jakarta some time ago.

Processed from Gaikindo (Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries) data, the average sales of double cabin cars for the 2019-2024 period were dominated by manual transmission units with a percentage of 87.4 percent. Meanwhile, the remaining 12.6 percent are automatic transmissions.

As of 2023, in Java and Bali, the number of registered MT (Manual Transmission) double cabin police registrations (polreg) was around 6,700 units. Following that were Sumatra with 6,534 units and then Kalimantan with 6,176 units.

Another 634 were in Papua, 1,951 units in Sulawesi, 200 units in Maluku, and 112 units in West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara.

“We also spoke with double cabin and Ranger users, and indeed, consumer needs and what led us to launch this is the need for a high-performance engine,” said Aviandra.

Regarding dimensions, the L x W x H of the New Ranger XL are 5,370 mm x 2,208 mm x 1,884 mm. For comparison, the new Ranger is larger than the Toyota Hilux double cabin at 5,285 mm x 1,855 mm x 1,815 mm.
