KatadataOTO – With three months still left before the end of the year, the number of new car sales in Indonesia has once again experienced a decline.

Referring to Gaikindo data, throughout September 2025, retail sales (distribution from dealers to consumers) were 63,723 units.

This achievement is down 4.20 percent compared to retail sales in August 2025.

The economic condition, which has not fully recovered, is considered one of the contributing factors.

Looking in more detail, Toyota remains in the first position as the brand with the most sales, at 20,072 units.

However, the figure is down from August 2025, which was 20,733 units. Then in second place is Daihatsu with 11,390 units, an increase when compared to their retail sales in August 2025, which were 11,008 units.

Suzuki overtook Honda's car sales, delivering 5,477 units to consumers.

The presence of the new Fronx model with a competitive price played an important role in contributing to Suzuki's sales.

Overall, car sales for the January-September 2025 period were 585,917 units (retail).

Meanwhile, the wholesales figure (distribution from factory to dealer) was 561,819 units.

This figure is quite far from Gaikindo's sales target of at least 850 thousand units throughout 2025.

This means there is still a gap of around 264 thousand units that needs to be chased before the end of 2025.

Meanwhile, several brands in Indonesia believe that new car sales will only peak at 750 thousand, considering the current public purchasing power.

Gaikindo previously expressed hope in the GJAW 2025 automotive exhibition.

Unlike GIIAS, GJAW 2025 focuses more on sales programs, making it easier for the public to purchase vehicles.
