Following the Serena e-Power, Nissan is currently preparing a new hybrid-powered MPV, a potential rival to the Toyota Alphard.
KatadataOTO – The dominance of Chinese manufacturing in the global market is slowly being felt, especially in the era of electrification. Japanese manufacturers need to prepare a strategy to face the onslaught of Chinese cars.
Most recently, Nissan announced the arrival of their newest hybrid MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle), which will apparently be based on the Hyper Tourer electric concept car.
For your information, Nissan currently also has a hybrid MPV with smaller dimensions than the Hyper Tourer, namely the Serena e-Power.
Nissan's hybrid MPV will later be sold as the fourth generation of the Elgrand. The model is equipped with a third-generation e-Power hybrid system paired with a 1,500 cc engine.
“We are enthusiastic about developing the Elgrand we introduced today and are preparing to deliver it to you in its best form,” said Zen Sugimoto, Executive Officer of Marketing and Sales for Nissan Japan in his official broadcast, quoted Thursday (24/04).
For your information, the Nissan Elgrand is an MPV that was launched in Japan in 1997. In terms of dimensions, this car is in the same class as the Toyota Alphard.
The model was officially sold in Indonesia in 2010, but has not been offered to consumers since 2018.
However, Nissan is now focusing heavily on hybrid products like the Kicks e-Power and Serena e-Power. Most recently, they are rumored to be bringing in the hybrid version of the X-Trail soon.
It is possible that this Hyper Tourer-based hybrid MPV will be brought to Indonesia, adding another eco-friendly family car option for the people of the country.
If it enters Indonesia, the Elgrand Hybrid or e-Power will be a competitor to the Toyota Alphard. For comparison, the price of the Toyota Alphard HEV is around Rp 1.7 billion (on the road Jakarta), so there is a chance the price tag for Nissan's newest product will not be much different.
There is no detailed information yet regarding the price or technical specifications of the fourth-generation Nissan Elgrand. However, the brand claims the new Elgrand will be more fuel-efficient thanks to their latest e-Power system.
The Elgrand is one of four new models Nissan is preparing, especially for the Japanese market.
For your information, the Nissan Hyper Tourer was once exhibited in Indonesia at the GIIAS (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show) event.
The Nissan Hyper Tourer is an electric-powered concept car that looks futuristic and has abundant features. Its cabin is made modern with an LED floor and floating seats, that can rotate 360 degrees.
In terms of performance, Nissan has equipped the Hyper Tourer with e-4ORCE drive technology. The battery is then placed in the lower central area, which is claimed to create an ideal center of gravity for the MPV.
