KatadataOTO – Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) still has one more trick up its sleeve to entice consumers. Especially in the electric car segment.
The Japanese manufacturer intends to launch the Suzuki eVitara to consumers in early 2026.
"Early next year we will introduce the full battery electric vehicle version (Suzuki eVitara)," said Dony Ismi Saputra, Deputy of Sales & Marketing Managing Director of SIS at GJAW 2025.
According to him, Suzuki will take advantage of the momentum of one of the automotive exhibitions in the country.
If true, it is quite possible the Suzuki eVitara will be showcased at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2026.
Considering IIMS 2026 will be held from February 5-15, 2026, at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta.
"The timing will be around one of the motor shows early in the year. I don't need to specify which one, you probably already know," Dony affirmed.
For your information, the Suzuki eVitara will be the first electric car from the S-badged manufacturer in Indonesia.
Confirmed to launch in 2026, the manufacturer said the units will initially be fully imported or Completely Built Up (CBU).
Three countries produce the Suzuki eVitara: Japan, India, and Europe.
The eVitara in Indonesia will likely be imported from Japan or India, considering they are already configured for right-hand drive.
"CBU first, we will also look at the volume, consumer response, and so on,” said Shodiq Wicaksono, Managing Director of PT Suzuki Indomobil Motor (SIM) on a separate occasion.
Many factors are considered by the manufacturer before locally assembling a model. One of them is sales volume.
Considering the increasingly fierce competition in the electrification segment due to the presence of Chinese brands, Suzuki will first observe the market conditions.
He emphasized that Suzuki will continue to provide various other electrification options for consumers, making the eVitara just one of the options.
However, SIS has opened up the possibility that the Suzuki eVitara will be produced domestically in the future.
This is because its twin, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, which uses the same base as the eVitara, is planned to be produced in the country.
However, both parties were reluctant to speak further about the possibility of cooperation in the production of the eVitara or the Urban Cruiser EV.
