KatadataOTO – The Toyota Hilux Rangga is a pickup that can be modified according to the owner's needs. In collaboration with coachbuilders, there is even an SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) option offered.

Thus, a pickup that could previously only accommodate two people and cargo in the bed becomes a 7-seater passenger car.

Following in those footsteps, it was recently revealed that Slate Auto, a startup from the United States, has introduced a model with a similar concept.

The company, which has Jeff Bezos as one of its investors, is introducing a pure electric pickup truck, claimed to be sold at an affordable price.

Indeed, pickups have started to regain popularity recently. Chinese manufacturers are also now starting to introduce electric open-bed models because they are in high demand and have unique designs.

“Slate is a radical truck platform that is very easy to customize, it can even be changed from a 2-seater pickup to a 5-seater SUV,” said Chris Barnan, CEO of Slate, in his statement quoted on Friday (25/04).

Because it is an electric vehicle, the front hood is not occupied by an engine but is an empty space for additional cargo or a frunk (front trunk).

The main characteristic that Slate Auto wants to offer is hassle-free vehicle personalization. The manufacturer offers more than 100 accessories that can be purchased individually or in packages.
