KatadataOTO – Although sales figures for electric motorcycles in Indonesia have decreased, Polytron reveals that the number of vehicles in operation continues to grow. Since first launching in 2021, they have sold nearly 40,000 units.
This number is expected to continue increasing, considering the market potential still exists despite being full of challenges.
“Since the first launch in 2021, the number has almost reached 40,000 units. So, the 30,000-unit mark has been surpassed, but I cannot provide the exact details,” said Ilman Fachrian Fadly, Head of the Electric Vehicle Product Group at Polytron in Jakarta.
Of this total, the Polytron Fox-R is claimed to be the best-selling model, followed by the Fox S and Fox 500.
“But the details cannot be shared yet,” he added.
The large number of units sold indicates high public interest in Polytron electric motorcycles. Especially when it is still uncertain when government incentives will be available in Indonesia.
He revealed that before bringing the units to Indonesia, his team continuously made adjustments to meet market needs.
“If it is accepted by the public, we are grateful, but if not, we will look for another product that truly fits their needs,” he affirmed.
Although acknowledging that Polytron motorcycle sales have nearly reached 40,000 units, he is aware that the electric motorcycle market still needs incentives. Unfortunately, the government has not yet issued the policy that has been key to developing the EV market.
Therefore, Polytron has taken its own steps to sell vehicles and survive in the market. One of these is by providing an Rp 7 million incentive for each of their two-wheeled EVs in Indonesia.
This move is claimed to be able to increase electric motorcycle sales in the country because the program is considered quite convenient.
"So we provide our own subsidy so that the price remains competitive. Moreover, consumers are not burdened with the one ID card for one vehicle scheme," Ilman then affirmed.
Nevertheless, he admitted that this situation is quite burdensome for the company. This is because the potential profit becomes smaller than it should be.
