KatadataOTO – Electric motorcycle conversion is one alternative to accelerate electrification in Indonesia. Various efforts have been made to make it easier for the public, such as incentives and free conversions that were offered in 2024.
Some time ago, it was reported that the Ministry of EMR (Energy and Mineral Resources) revealed that the electric motorcycle conversion incentive program would be continued again this year.
However, there are still several matters under process and discussion, such as the incentive funds to be disbursed later.
“Look, there has just been a change in the Ministerial Regulation because it was only valid until 2024. The Minister has agreed to continue, but the funding will have to be considered,” said Eniya Listiani Dewi, Director General of NREEC at the Ministry of EMR, when met in Karawang on Tuesday (11/2).
Therefore, no target has been set by the Ministry of EMR regarding the number of electric motorcycle conversions throughout 2025.
Clarity regarding the incentive scheme and the exact number of electric motorcycle conversions this year has also not been determined by the government.
“Well, the scheme and the numbers will be discussed later. But for now, there is no decision, and no timeline yet,” she emphasized.
Previously reported, the Ministry of EMR supports electric motorcycle conversion to support the development of the electric motorcycle ecosystem.
Throughout 2024, the Ministry of EMR revealed that 1,111 converted two-wheeled vehicles received assistance from the government. This achievement is an increase compared to the 2023 figure, which was only 145 units.
Aismoli (Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Association) also welcomes the discourse on continuing the electric motorcycle conversion incentive. The hope is that it can encourage the public to carry out conversions.
“Then if the government provides subsidies, they (conversion workshops) are ready to oversee it,” said Budi Setiyadi, Chairman of Aismoli, when contacted by KatadataOTO some time ago.
Speaking of electric motorcycle conversion workshops, there are already several locations scattered, especially in Jakarta and the West Java area.
For example, the workshop owned by Elders Garage or at the Center for Survey and Testing of Electricity, New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conversion. Meanwhile, in Central Java, East Java, and Bali, they are still quite limited.
