KatadataOTO – The news about the continuation of the electric motorcycle subsidy is still a question. Several parties are awaiting the realization of this policy.
Seeing the above, the Minister of Industry (Menperin) has spoken out about the government's assistance.
“The electric motorcycle subsidy will be finalized soon, it's already being finished up,” said Agus Gumiwang, Minister of Industry, at the opening of IIMS 2025 at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta on Thursday (13/02).
Agus admitted that the government is still calculating the amount of assistance to be given to the public in the country.
Therefore, they cannot yet confirm whether the form of the electric motorcycle subsidy in 2025 will be the same as last year or not.
“It is still being processed and calculated, but it will definitely happen. So the electric motorcycle subsidy will be released soon,” Agus affirmed.
Indeed, previously Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, revealed that President Prabowo Subianto and the ministers want to implement the aforementioned policy.
However, they do not yet know when they can disburse the electric motorcycle subsidy for automotive enthusiasts in the country.
“It should still continue, because everyone has agreed. So the (government's) program will not be disrupted,” said Airlangga in a different location.
Airlangga also said that the assistance policy will be implemented once the PMK (Minister of Finance Regulation) is issued.
“Yes, soon (it will be implemented), once the PMK is out, the policy will be in effect,” he said.
As a reminder, Aismoli (the Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Industry Association) previously revealed that the uncertainty of the electric motorcycle subsidy has had many impacts.
One of them is that the public's purchasing power for electric two-wheeled vehicles has decreased. This is because consumers are waiting for assistance from the government.
“What is clear is that the industry is complaining a lot now. Because the stock from 2024 is still abundant, there is overcapacity, and we can say that we cannot sell (electric motorcycles) quickly,” said Budi Setiyadi, Chairman of Aismoli, to KatadataOTO some time ago.
Budi believes that many consumers are now waiting for assistance like in 2024, causing them to postpone their purchases.
As a result, manufacturers' sales have dropped quite a bit. Consequently, existing stock is piling up in their warehouses.
“So, sales can be said to have dropped drastically. What we actually need now is certainty,” Budi concluded.
Unfortunately, Budi did not explain the extent of the decline in electric motorcycle sales in the country after the government assistance ended.
