Alleged Cause of Cisumdawu Toll Road Accident, Claims Three Lives

KatadataOTO – A fatal accident has occurred again in Indonesia. This time on the Cisumdawu Toll Road KM 189+400 in Mandalaherang Village, Cimalaka District, Sumedang Regency on Tuesday (29/04) morning.

The incident involved a Toyota Hiace, operating as a shuttle on the Bandung-Cirebon route, and a Hino box truck carrying goods on the toll road.

The police have conducted an on-site investigation. They suspect the driver was drowsy, which caused the incident.

"No brake marks were found at all (at the location), which supports the suspicion that the driver was drowsy while driving," said Kombes Pol Dodi Darjanto, Director of Traffic for the West Java Regional Police, as quoted by Antara.

For your information, the accident on the Cisumdawu Toll Road began when the Toyota Hiace shuttle was traveling from Bandung towards Cirebon in the middle lane.

Upon arriving at the location, the shuttle intended to overtake the vehicle in front of it. However, it is suspected that the driver lacked concentration or was drowsy, causing them to lose control.

As a result, the Toyota Hiace hit the right rear of the Hino box truck on the Cisumdawu Toll Road at KM 189+400.

The severe impact caused the Toyota Hiace to be instantly destroyed and become wedged against the cargo truck's tire.

In light of this, the police urge the public not to force themselves to drive when feeling drowsy.

They should also adhere to the rule of taking a break every two to four hours during long-distance journeys.

Three People Died

Meanwhile, AKBP Wira, Head of the Law Enforcement Sub-directorate of the West Java Regional Police Traffic Directorate, said there were fatalities in the accident on the Cisumdawu Toll Road this morning.

"Initial reports indicate three people died, one was seriously injured, and three sustained minor injuries," said Wira.

It was also reported that one passenger was thrown from the vehicle with license plate number D 7838 AV.

All victims have now been evacuated by the police to the Sumedang Regional General Hospital (RSUD).

Unfortunately, Wira could not yet provide more detailed information regarding the identities of all the victims of today's Cisumdawu Toll Road accident.

The Sumedang Resort Police Traffic Unit, together with the West Java Regional Police Traffic Directorate, are still conducting further investigations at the scene.
