KatadataOTO – Toyota has become the world's best-selling car manufacturer for the sixth consecutive time. The Japanese company recorded sales of 11.322.575 million throughout 2025.
This figure rose 4.6 percent compared to 2024 sales, which only reached 10.8 million units. It is even higher than the previous record of 11.2 million in 2023.
This achievement also far surpasses that of Volkswagen Group, which holds the second-largest sales position. According to Motor1, the German company only reached 8.98 million units.
When looking at the official data in detail, Toyota's achievement is inseparable from the strong overseas market. In fact, they sold 9.25 million units throughout 2025, which is 3.1 percent higher than 2024's 8.97 million units.
Meanwhile, for sales in Japan itself, Toyota sold 2.07 million units in 2025. This figure increased by 11.9 percent compared to 2024's 1.8 million units.
Nevertheless, this record is still below the 2023 achievement of 2.3 million units. The highest record occurred in 2019 with sales of 2.33 million units.
Toyota sales (including Lexus) in Asia are considered positive as they recorded a 2.2 percent growth to 3.28 million units. Sales in China became a key factor due to high demand for the bZ3X and bZ5.
However, the sales decline in Indonesia of 12.2 percent down to only 260,446 units received special evaluation. Toyota revealed that this decline is caused by market challenges due to strict credit regulations and the addition of vehicle taxes.
It should be noted that throughout 2025, Toyota and Lexus became the backbone of the company with sales reaching 10.53 million units. The figure grew 3.7 percent compared to last year and set a new record for the manufacturer.
There is also sales in Japan of 1.5 million units, up 4.1 percent from before. Meanwhile, overseas achievements for Matahari Terbit are 9.03 million, setting a new record.
Then Daihatsu sales also recorded good results. The subsidiary sold 675,285 units, an increase of 25.8 percent.
