Eventually, Chinese trucks that will be used in Indonesia must comply with applicable regulations, such as roadworthiness.

KatadataOTO – The presence of Chinese trucks in Indonesia continues to be a debate. Especially since it is considered to have a negative impact on the commercial vehicle market.
For this reason, the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) admits it intends to address this condition.
"This is what will be fixed, in other words, sorted out; everything that enters Indonesia must undergo a roadworthiness test," said Jongkie D. Sugiarto, Vice Chairman of Market Development at Gaikindo, in North Jakarta.
It was further mentioned that the government is very concerned about the presence of Chinese trucks.
Therefore, they are currently drafting a new regulation involving the Directorate General of Land Transportation (Ditjen Hubdat) and the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin).
According to Jongkie, even though Chinese trucks enter Indonesia as a form of investment, they will still be required to follow the applicable regulations.
"But you are using the vehicle in the Republic of Indonesia, right? The rules apply on any public road, anywhere. Even in the mines, they must be roadworthy," continued Jongkie.
Through this new regulation, all Chinese trucks that are to be brought into the country must undergo roadworthiness testing.
That way, the vehicle will have a Type Test Registration Certificate, so it can be used on Indonesian roads.
"That's only right, if a vehicle enters Indonesia, it must also have a roadworthiness certificate," Jongkie asserted.
However, Jongkie has not yet revealed when the regulation will be implemented.
Because it is still being drafted and discussed by the government. So that it can be implemented smoothly later on.
"We must convey what we have found to the government. So the government can determine these policies," concluded Jongkie.
As previously reported by KatadataOTO, the presence of Chinese trucks is considered to have had a negative impact.
For example, it has affected the commercial vehicle market and caused sales to decline throughout 2025.
