Luxury Car Sales in May 2025 Rose Amid Weakening Purchasing Power

KatadataOTO – Economic conditions that have not yet improved and the Eid holiday period are among the culprits for the decline in car sales in 2025.

Several brands experienced a decline in May 2025. For example, BYD recorded retail sales of 2,639 units, down from its achievement in April of 3,531 units.

Meanwhile, the South Korean brand, Hyundai, also experienced a similar situation. Its retail sales figures dropped from 1,703 units to 1,651 units.

Amid these various challenges, sales of luxury cars actually experienced a slow increase, although the majority had plummeted throughout April 2025.

The launch of new models by several brands seems to have played a role in boosting these achievements.

Processed from Gaikindo data received by KatadataOTO, BMW successfully sold 101 vehicle units last month, an increase from the April report of 88 units.

Meanwhile, Mini, which recently launched several new models, experienced an increase after its sales had plummeted throughout April.

The German manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz, delivered 109 vehicle units to consumers in May 2025. The previous month, Mercedes-Benz sales were at 74 units.
