KatadataOTO – Various challenges face the Indonesian automotive industry. This has made new car sales sluggish in the first three months of 2025.

Processing data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), from January to March 2025, retail sales, or from dealers to consumers, were only 210,483 units.

This figure represents an 8.9 percent decrease compared to last year's achievement. In 2024, it reached 230,778 units.

Looking at the data above, many believe that Gaikindo's target for this year will be difficult to achieve. However, Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) has a different point of view.

“We are confident that Gaikindo's target can still be achieved,” said Dony Saputra, Deputy Managing Director 4W SIS, when met in Karawang on Tuesday (22/04).

Dony is even confident that new car sales in 2025 will be even better than the achievement in 2024.

Considering there is still a long time to reinvigorate the market until the end of the year.

“So, in the remaining nine months, it's about our efforts within each brand to achieve the target that has been jointly planned,” Dony continued.

According to Dony, all parties must cultivate confidence to face the current market conditions.

That way, the target previously set by Gaikindo for 2025 can be achieved by the end of the year.

“We see it, we are still optimistic that the condition in 2025 will be better compared to 2024,” Dony emphasized.

On the other hand, Dony is targeting Suzuki's market share throughout 2025 to remain at 10 percent of national four-wheeled vehicle sales.

As a reminder, Gaikindo has set a new car sales target for 2025 of 900 thousand units.

However, a number of obstacles are facing the four-wheeled vehicle market. Such as the weakening of the rupiah's exchange rate against the United States dollar recently.

In early April 2025, it even broke through Rp 17 thousand per US dollar. Then on Wednesday (23/04), it was still at Rp 16,871.5 per US dollar.

If this condition continues for a long time, it will certainly threaten the sustainability of the country's automotive industry. It could cause new car prices to rise.
