KatadataOTO – GAC Aion entered Indonesia by taking advantage of the imported electric car incentives provided by the government.

Thanks to this subsidy, GAC Aion can market its cars at a more competitive price despite their Completely Built Up (CBU) status.

However, one thing to note is the commitment to local assembly in 2026. This is because the incentive will stop being disbursed starting next year.

Therefore, by 2026, GAC Aion must begin locally assembling vehicles in a quantity matching its imports to Indonesia during the incentive period.

It should be noted that GAC Aion uses a production facility resulting from a collaboration with the Indomobil Group, located in Purwakarta, West Java.

In the first phase, the GAC Aion factory is claimed to have a production capacity of 20,000 units per year. However, this figure will be increased to 50,000 units per year in the future.

Several initial models are confirmed to be assembled there, such as the Aion V, Hyptec HT, Y Plus, and their first hybrid car, the Geely Starwish Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV).

With a capacity of at least 20,000 per year, it seems it will not be difficult for GAC Aion to meet the obligation to market Completely Knocked Down (CKD) products in 2026.

Processed from Gaikindo data, GAC Aion has imported a total of 4,405 environmentally friendly vehicles.

The highest-end Aion V, also known as the Luxury, was the largest contributor with 2,220 units in the January-September 2025 period.

Overall, the Aion V Luxury has consistently been the model with the highest imports since its launch.

In second place is the highest-end Aion V Luxury. This model was launched at the GIIAS 2025 event and is claimed to have received a positive response from consumers.

Following that is the Aion Y Plus Exclusive with 370 units. For more details, here is KatadataOTO's summary of GAC Aion's import report in Indonesia for 2025.
