KatadataOTO – Car sales in 2025 experienced considerable pressure. Based on Gaikindo data, the number of vehicles sold was only 833,712 units, a decrease from the previous year's 889,680 units.
Almost all vehicle segments experienced a decline. However, this situation did not apply to pickup trucks with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of less than 5 tons.
This is because throughout 2025, retail sales in this segment actually experienced a significant increase. Sales from January to December 2025 reached 110,574 units, equivalent to 13.3 percent.
This figure is 6,681 units more than retail sales in 2024. At that time, only 103,893 pickup trucks were sold, equivalent to 11.7 percent of the total national market.
These high sales figures were due to stable sales in the 2025 semester. In July 2025, pickup truck sales reached 8,726 units.
This figure then continued to rise, peaking in December 2025 with 12,381 units sold.
In addition, pickup wholesales also experienced quite high growth. At least 107,008 units were successfully shipped from factories to dealers throughout 2025, equivalent to 13.3 percent of the national car market.
Meanwhile, in 2024, pickup shipments from factories to dealers were only 101,572 units, or about 11.7 percent of the national market. This means wholesales in this segment managed to grow by 5,436 units.
Similar to retail sales, pickup truck sales in the second semester were also quite strong. This is evident from the continuous growth in the number of vehicles shipped from factories to dealers.
In July 2025, vehicle shipments amounted to 8,502 units. This figure was higher than the previous month, which was only 7,114 units.
That number then continued to grow in the following months and reached its peak in December 2025. At least 13,219 units were shipped to dealers from the factory.
This growth can certainly continue to increase in 2026. Especially since the government, through the Ministry of Finance, is targeting economic growth to reach 5.4 percent.
To achieve this, a number of stagnant sectors such as manufacturing and energy are expected to grow. So that the economy can move positively compared to last year.
