KatadataOTO – It's not just passenger cars whose sales are down in 2025. However, commercial vehicles are also experiencing the same thing.
This situation is prompting several parties to urge the government to provide incentives for the commercial segment in 2026.
As stated by Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motors (KTB), as the manufacturer of Mitsubishi Fuso in Indonesia.
“Yes, that's right, it's a positive (incentive proposal). There really needs to be strategic steps from the government on how the automotive industry, especially the commercial sector, can recover,” said Aji Jaya, Sales and Marketing Director of KTB in Surabaya, East Java some time ago.
According to Aji, the commercial vehicle segment needs stimulus from the government. Considering the sales decline is not only seen this year.
A similar condition has been ongoing since 2022. It then continued in 2023, 2024 and into 2025.
“If there is no action, sales might fall again in the future,” Aji affirmed.
Therefore, Mitsubishi Fuso is encouraging the government to also provide incentives for the commercial vehicle market.
This is important so that in 2026 the market will be revitalized. Then sales can show a positive performance.
Previously, an incentive proposal was also put forward by Kalista. However, they requested stimulus for commercial electric vehicles.
“Perhaps there needs to be an incentive like for passenger vehicles where the Value Added Tax (VAT) is 10 percent, or for motorcycles an (incentive of) Rp 7 million,” said Albert Aulia Ilyas, President Director of Kalista on a different occasion.
The use of electric vehicles for commercial purposes is said to be able to help reduce emissions. Considering the operational routes in that segment are quite extensive.
According to Albert, in several other countries like Singapore and Malaysia, incentives are given for Electric Vehicles (EVs) across segments. So that their adoption becomes more evenly distributed.
“That could be one way to accelerate things. Because if people or companies are given incentives, they will surely change faster,” he concluded.
On the other hand, Kalista is also encouraging the development of a more evenly distributed infrastructure. So that fleet consumers can be more confident in using electric vehicles for their fleet needs.
For your information, Mitsubishi Fuso actually also has a commercial electric vehicle. They have marketed the eCanter for domestic consumers.
