KatadataOTO – The new car market in Indonesia is experiencing a slowdown. One of the segments affected is the Low Cost Green Car (LCGC).
According to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) in July 2025, the distribution of LCGC cars from factory to dealer (wholesale) was only 8,923 units.
This number decreased by up to 40 percent compared to last year. Because in July 2024, it reached a level of 14,809 units.
Meanwhile, when accumulated from January to July 2025, LCGC car wholesales recorded 72,986 units.
If observed in more detail, the figure above dropped by 30.13 percent. It should be remembered that in the same period in 2024, it successfully recorded 104,452 units.
Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM), which is a major player in the LCGC car market, regrets the current situation.
"The hope is that in the second semester, the economy will be better, (and then) purchasing power will increase," said Sri Agung Handayani, Marketing & Corporate Communication Director of ADM in Sunter, North Jakarta, some time ago.
The four-wheeled vehicle manufacturer, which often targets first-time car buyers, wants the automotive industry in the country to improve soon.
Daihatsu also admitted to having prepared various efforts to stimulate the new car market, especially in the LCGC segment.
"So we are still focusing on first-time car buyers. We are targeting urban areas, but we also hope for rural areas," Agung continued.
The Japanese brand is also paying attention to their vehicle financing. Daihatsu will screen consumers with good financial capabilities.
This is so they can minimize bad loans. So it does not cause problems in the future.
"We are also gradually making improvements in the consumer selection process. This means looking for several potential buyers," Agung continued.
In addition, Astra Daihatsu Motor also presents various programs. The hope is to make it easier for the public to buy new cars.
This way, more people will be interested in spending their money to purchase a four-wheeled vehicle in the LCGC segment.
"We have several special programs, for example, for teachers and civil servants, it is made easier for them to buy a Daihatsu vehicle," Agung affirmed.
For your information, they have two products in the LCGC car line for consumers, such as the Sigra and Ayla.
